Polyphenyl ether PPE(American) or PPO (Japanese)
The chemical name of Polyphenylene ether is poly2, 6-dimethyl-1, 4-phenylene ether, PPE(Polypheylene ether) or PPO (Polyphenylene Oxide). Also known as polyphenylene oxide or polyphenylene ether, it is a thermoplastic resin with low temperature resistance.
Modified Polyphenylene Oxide (MPPO), or Modified Polypheylene ether (MPPE), is commonly used in the market. Since it is customary to refer to polyphenyl ether and its modified blend polymers as PPE(American name) or PPO (Japanese name), this article also uses a simple name: hereinafter referred to as PPE or PPO.
PPE characteristics: PPE is a comprehensive function of thermoplastic engineering plastics, outstanding electrical insulation and water resistance, good dimensional volatility.
1. Dielectric function ranks first in engineering plastics: PPE resin molecular structure has no strong polar groups, electrical function fluctuations, can adhere to good electrical function in the common temperature and frequency range. Its dielectric constant and dielectric loss Angle tangent are the smallest in engineering plastics, and are virtually unaffected by temperature, humidity and frequency number. Its volume resistivity is higher than that of engineering plastics. The excellent electrical function of PPE makes it widely used in consumer electrical goods, especially high-voltage resistant components, such as the line input transformer (FBT) of color TV.
2. Good machine function and thermal function: PPE sub-chain contains a small amount of aromatic ring structure, and the molecular chain is rational. Resin machine strength is high, creep resistance, temperature change has little effect. PPE has high heat resistance, glass transition temperature up to 211℃, melting point 268℃.
3. Excellent water resistance: PPE is an amorphous resin, in the usual temperature range, less molecular movement, no large polar groups in the main chain, no dipole moment, water resistance is very good, and it is the type of engineering plastics with lower water absorption. In the hot water for a long time soaking its physical function still has little decline.
4. Good flame retardancy, with self-extinguishing: PPE oxygen index 29, self-extinguishing data, and high impact polystyrene oxygen index 17, flammability data, the combination of the two is a moderate level of flammability, the manufacture of flame retardant grade PPE, do not need to add halogen flame retardants, participate in phosphorus-containing flame retardants can reach the UL94 specification, increase the purification of the environment.
5. Low expansion rate, good dimensional fluctuation; Non-toxic, low density.
6. Resistance to media and light: PPE is not corroded by acids, alkalis and washers at all. Under stress, mineral oils and ketones and ester solvents will have stress cracking; Melt and dissolve inorganic solvents such as aliphatic hydrocarbons, halogenated aliphatic hydrocarbons and phenarenes. The weakness of PPE is poor light resistance, long time in the sun or fluorescent lamp use discolor, yellow color, because ultraviolet light can make the chain of aromatic ether caused by the split. How to improve the light resistance of PPE has become a problem. Polyphenyl ether (PPO or PPE) is also known as polyphenylene oxide, the chemical title is poly 2, 6-dimethyl-1, 4-phenyl ether. It is a linear polymer formed by oxygenating 2, 6-dimethylphenol and stopping oxidation and condensation reaction under the action of catalyst.
Material function:
PPO is white particle. Good comprehensive function, can be used in 120 degrees of steam, good electrical insulation, little water absorption, but there is a tendency to stress cracking. Modified polyphenyl ether can eliminate stress cracking. Outstanding electrical insulation and excellent water resistance, good dimensional fluctuation. Its dielectric function ranks first in plastics. MPPO is the modified data prepared by blending PPO and HIPS, and the current data on the market are all of this kind of data. It has high heat resistance, glass transition temperature 211 degrees, melting point 268 degrees, heating to 330 degrees has a tendency to decompose, the higher the content of PPO, the better the heat resistance, and the thermal deformation temperature can reach 190 degrees. Good flame retardancy, with self-extinguishing, and medium flammability after mixing with HIPS. Light weight, non-toxic can be used in the food and pharmaceutical industry. Poor optical rotation resistance, long-term use in the sun will change color. It can be modified with ABS,HDPE,PPS,PA,HIPS, glass fiber and so on.
Polyphenyl ether PPO- Uses:
PPO is suitable for manufacturing heat resistant parts, insulation parts, wear resistant parts, transmission parts, medical and electronic parts.
It can be used for gears, blades, valves and other parts at lower temperatures, and can be used instead of stainless steel. Screws, fasteners and connectors can be manufactured. Electrical parts of motor, rotor, casing, transformer, etc.
