Unilever has retooled its strategy to use more recycled materials in plastic packaging
Unilever's new chief executive said it would "radically" refocus the company's strategy around sustainability, moving from aspirational targets to short-term goals. But plastics will remain one of the four key areas, he said.
Hein Schumacher, who took over the consumer goods maker in July, said in a recent earnings conference call that "debates around brands, sustainability and goals have arguably generated more heat than light in recent years."
Schumacher starts talking about sustainability around 40 minutes into the video, saying that for plastics, this could mean more targets for using recycled materials in packaging.
Unilever told governments at the recent COP28 climate conference that it wants to triple renewable energy capacity by 2030; Protect and regenerate land, forests and oceans; Supporting regenerative agriculture; Support low-carbon feedstocks as alternatives to fossil chemicals.

The project is a green and low-carbon key standard revision project in the industrial optimization and upgrading standard project. The focal point of the standard technology is the National Plastic Standardization Technical Committee (SAC/TC15), and the recycled Plastics Working Group of the National Plastic Standards Committee (TC15/WG2) is specifically responsible for the various stages of the standard development.

Kao launches shrink label using 50% recycled PET in Taiwan Province
After launching a packaging product using recycled PET resin in Taiwan Province of China in 2016, Kao has recently joined hands with Far East New Century to successfully develop a shrink film product made of 50% recycled PET resin. The shrink label produced by Kao will be the first to be applied to Kao's shampoo and novel bleach.
Compared with the use of the original resin, the shrinkage label produced by 50% recycled PET resin can reduce the carbon emission by 23.5~25%. In addition to being used in shrink labels, KAO includes six brands such as Kao shampoo, Biore, Men's Biore, Yi Suanxiu, Liese Lijie and Magic Spirit, and more than 60 product bottles have been made of recycled plastic. I.P. One, Apra and ENVICCO collaborate to launch recycled HDPE bottles
Thai fast-moving products company I.P. One recently launched Vixol with ENVICCO and Apra Packaging, a new packaging initiative that turns discarded colored plastic waste into recyclable bottles. Create a closed loop for plastic packaging through the pilot project "VIXOL POWER Black Bottle ".
"Vixol" products are the flagship brand of I.P. One. The company has previously reduced the size of plastic caps to reduce the use of more than 10 tons of plastic per year. This time, the company worked with Apra and ENVICCO to apply innovative technology to the reuse of HDPE bottles. The project created a closed-loop system for the production of 20 million Vixol bottles by sorting and recycling household packaging waste, producing post-consumer recycled HDPE, and finally creating new bottles.
According to online search results, Vixol Power products include toilet cleaning products. However, the PTTGC press release did not disclose the proportion of HDPE recycled content in this packaging, and ENVICCO is a joint venture between PTTGC and Apra to produce recycled plastics.
